The Federal Government has approved the construction of an N11 billion hydro-electric dam in the Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Gov. Namadi Sambo has said.

Sambo said on Saturday at the inauguration of a hospital at Dinya village in Soba town that Soba would be one of the areas to benefit from the project when completed.

The dam project, which would have cost N5 billion initially, was originally designed to supply water but was later reviewed to generate electricity to parts of the state, he said.

Sambo reiterated his administration’s commitment to the enhancement of the wellbeing of the masses and promised to do everything possible to carry them along through the execution of projects that had a direct bearing on their lives.

He said poverty eradication remained one of the priorities of his administration and lauded Alhaji Kawo Ibrahim, the Chairman of Soba Local Council, for footing the electricity bills of the entire people of the area since the inception of his administration.

The state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Ya’u Usman-Jama’a, also commended Ibrahim and the people of Soba for their collective effort in the development of the town.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ahmed Hassan-Jumare, called on the people of the area to support the present administration in its effort to develop the state.

Earlier, Ibrahim had enumerated projects executed by his administration to include the distribution of 225,000 exercise books and other writing materials to 45,000 pupils in schools in the area.

He said his administration also distributed 40 cycles to the disabled, built a hospital at Dinya village and distributed drugs worth N30 million as well as hospital equipment to  clinics in the council area.

The council chairman appealed to the state government to complete the hospital project at Maigana to ease the difficulty faced by patients.
